Thank you to everyone who contributed to *Blue Spring: Recollection & the Interior Life.* Your work gave our second issue its depth and stillness, and we are grateful for the care you brought to it.

We now invite submissions for **Issue III: Creation & Festivity.**

Ninth Heaven moves according to a calendar of themes, with each volume forming part of a larger cultural record. Our first issue considered suffering, wilderness and eternity. Our second turned toward recollection and the interior life. Issue III now turns toward creation and festivity: toward the wonder of making, and toward the forms of joy through which communities remember and renew themselves.

Where the previous volumes often looked toward what is endured, remembered or contemplated, this issue asks what may be made, discovered, cultivated and celebrated.

## On the Theme

### Creation

To make anything is to take part in an older making. Every craft begins in attention to an order we did not invent: the grain of the wood, the measure of a line, the weight of a word.

What is a craft, if not a kind of devotion? What is knowledge, if not wonder before the order of things? We invite work on the poetic wonder of knowledge; natural philosophy as the contemplation of order; artistic and technical creation as collaboration with the divine; craftsmanship and ingenuity as spiritual gestures.

### Festivity

And what is made is meant to be shared. A feast is one of the oldest ways a people remembers who it is. Every festival is a remembrance: of a harvest, a deliverance, a covenant; a day lifted out of ordinary time and set apart by joy.

We invite work on feasts and festivals as acts of remembrance and joy; on celebrations that renew cultural identity and express the unity of community.

## Beyond the Issue Theme

*Creation & Festivity* belongs to a wider constellation of questions that continues throughout Ninth Heaven.

Our perennial themes remain present in every volume: what it means to be human; poetry and the pursuit of beauty, truth and longing; the literature that has formed civilisations; art and criticism; metaphysics; and the meeting of faith and reason.

Submissions need not treat Creation or Festivity in isolation. We are especially interested in work that allows these themes to meet the journal's enduring concerns: creation and human dignity, craft and metaphysics, knowledge and wonder, celebration and faith, festivals and cultural memory, artistic inheritance, or the relationship between ingenuity and civilisation.
